Frequently Asked Questions

Know more about Durezza™ Natural Quartz by reading these simple questions…

Q. What are natural quartz surfaces?
A. Natural quartz, or engineered stone, is a surface material consisting primarily of 93% quartz and 7% resin. It is used primarily for kitchen and bath applications. It requires less maintenance and is more durable than natural stone.

Q. How does natural quartz compare to other countertop surfaces?
A. Quartz is one of the most durable, maintenance-free materials available. Due to its composition of natural quartz and resin, quartz is extremely stain, scratch, heat and bacterial resistant. It is also non-porous, therefore requiring no sealants or waxes to retain it’s lustrous gloss and stain resistance. Quartz also offers you consistency of color and pattern, making it easier to select your countertop from a smaller sample. Quartz is comparable in price to other high-end surfacing materials.

Q. Does quartz burn?
A. No, you can’t burn it with ordinary use.

Q. Can you scratch quartz?
A. Quartz has a ranking of 7 out of 10 on the Moh’s hardness scale. It can not be scratched in ordinary use, but we still recommend “use with care”

Q. Can quartz chip or crack?
A. As mentioned earlier, quartz is one of the strongest, hardest materials available. Under normal conditions it will not chip or crack. In cases of severe abuse with a hammer or other impact tool, a chip or crack may occur. In some cases, chips can be repaired. Contact your countertop specialist should a chip or crack occur.

Q. Will quartz stain?
A. Quartz is non-porous making it resistant to stains under normal use.

Q. How do you take care of quartz?
A. To maintain your countertop’s beauty, we recommend following these simple steps;
DO’s

  • Clean surface regularly using mild soap, water and a soft cloth to maintain the countertop’s appearance
  • Clean up spills of acidic liquids such as fruit juices or vinegar immediately
  • Use coasters under glasses or other objects that may scratch the surface of your countertop
  • DON’Ts

  • Don’t use wax, sealers, or other topical finishes on your countertop
  • Don’t place hot dishes and cookware directly on your countertop
  • Don’t use scouring type cleaners, consistent with ammonia based cleaners, acidic-based cleaners, oven cleaners, or other general purpose cleaners on your countertop
  • Don’t use bleach or vinegar on your countertop
  • Don’t use rust removers or paint removers on your countertop

    Q. Will my quartz have visible seams?
    A. Most quartz installations will require at least one or more seams. During layout and design, we will attempt to minimize the number of seams required. Additionally, the factory machined edges fit together tightly to help lessen the appearance of visible seams.
